Toketsu Yuki grew up not knowing much of his family. While his clansmen were slain during the destruction of the Yuki Clan, he was hidden, sound asleep with his one year younger brother, deep within an ice cave. He was soon found by a elderly couple, taking in the cold and hungry brothers and treating them as their own. They grew up together for a couple years until the couple split them up to help hide them, the elderly man taking Toketsu's brother, Arashi, deep up north while Toketsu and the elderly woman stayed within the couple's hut. He would always be reading, even from a young age. He would read and learn water jutsus, using them to help the old lady around the house. Once he was nine, he was sent to the Academy to further his studies within the art of ninjutsu.

He was an exceptional student, using his knowledge of his current jutsu to jump ahead of the remaining class. He had made many friends there, being incredibly popular with the assistance of other children's Jutsu. A year had passed, and the teacher had declared the name who were to be taking the Genin exam. No one was surprised when Toketsu's name was called. He hopped and jumped his way to the exam area, the central arena of the Hidden Mist Village. He sat and watched as the Mizukage, Yagura at the time, gave them the order that in order to advance, they were to slay their fellow team mates. Kind hearted Toketsu was the last to strike, watching in horror as his fellow ninja and friends lashed out at one another. He held his kunai before him, hands trembling, hoping he wasn't noticed. The carnage would come to a small close to the point that only Toketsu and a girl who he had favored romantically were left. He watched as she gazed around savagely. her eyes finally falling upon him. She jumped and lunged at him. He simply held his Kunai out before him, clenching his eyes and gritting his teeth. Soon, he had heard all the villages cheer. Opening his eyes, he saw the horrific sight of his kunai deeply embedded into her neck, her eyes open in a trance like state. He quickly dropped his Kunai, and with it, her body. He was to be the Genin of this semester.

He was assigned to be the student of a man named Zabuza Mamochi. Zabuza carried a large sword with him and his hair short. Zabuza had told Toketsu that if he was to become good enough, he too could one day carry the Guillotine Sword. Kotetsu trained day and night with Zabuza, Kisame, and the other Seven Swordsman, working hard to perfect his swordsmanship. He trained with a replica Guillotine Sword that Zabuza had given to him. Toketsu was rarely seen without the thoughtful gift. After another two years, he took and passed the Chunin exams, working though it without a team behind him. He had then returned home to learn much tragic news. Zabuza had defected, and Kisame had attempted to assassinate the Mizukage. He lowered his head and cried, for they had been the only family he had even known.

After that day he dedicated himself to studying, hoping to one day find Zabuza again and prove his sensei proud. Every day he would practice his water jutsu, standing out in the middle of a nearby lake to do so. Zabuza had been teaching him the Hidden Mist and Water Dragon Jutsus, while Kisame was working with him on the Exploding Water Shock Wave and Water Shark Bomb Jutsus. Once he was eighteen, he was recognized by the Mizukage as a splendid ninja and was promoted to the Rank of Jonin.

As a Jonin, he still continues his research, this time reaching out to learn the Jutsus of foreign lands, such as the Waterfall Village's Sword of Draining technique. He loved to learn more and more techniques, claiming it to be an addiction to learn more and more of what he was capable of. He was soon appointed a place upon the Mist Village council for his high intellect. He was working beside the same man who had ordered the complete and utter destruction of his friends and family. One time, during one meeting, he proposed the barbaric ways of the Genin exams were put to a close, insisting that it would only assist the growth of the village. When his proposal was immediately refused, he lashed out at the Mizukage, releasing his hidden Kekkei Genkai. He barely escaped with his life, having taken a great beating from the Jinchuriki. He took the twin swords Kiba and fled to a nearby glacier, using his Kekkei Genkai to assist him hide within the ice. He then started to build himself a small hut, using his mastery of water techniques to carve away at the glacier to help conceal himself. After some time, he was sought out by his younger brother, Arashi. They both decided that the village had wronged them and that they too, like the Akatsuki, would slash out their headband as a symbol of their severing themselves from their previous village.

The village started small, only having Toketsu and Arashi for quite some time. After much time though, it had begun to accumulate members, gaining popularity and acknowledgement as an actual village. The village still lies upon the borders of the Hidden Mist Village. Toketsu has deemed himself the Korikage (Ice Shadow) and is accepted as such within his village. Toketsu has many goals for Hyogagakure. The top priority is to end the barbaric happenings within many of them. He wishes to be the harbinger of peace, or at least have an influence on the one person who finally does bring about peace.
